Chrome Relay's Chrome extension. Last updated October 12, 2026.

Chrome Relay lets AI coding agents on your Mac (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Paseo) work in background tabs of your Chrome. It has two parts: this extension, and a small service you build and run on your own Mac from the open-source repo. The extension talks to that service and nothing else.

What the extension handles

Where it goes

Only to the Chrome Relay service on your own Mac, over a connection to 127.0.0.1 that never leaves the machine. The extension sends nothing to the developer or to anyone else: no analytics, no tracking, no remote servers, and no code loaded from the internet. The service on your Mac keeps an audit trail of what agents did in ~/.chrome-relay, which stays on your Mac (text typed into pages is recorded only as its length).

What the agents themselves do with what they read is up to the agent apps you run and their own policies. If you turn on the optional decision model for chrome-relay do, the service on your Mac sends the text of agent tabs to the provider you chose (Anthropic through your own Claude Code, or TypeSafe), as the README explains.

What is not done with it

Your data is not sold, not transferred to third parties, not used for advertising, and not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending. It is not used for anything but carrying out what your agents ask for in your Chrome.

Removing it

Remove the extension in chrome://extensions; its stored tab IDs go with it. chrome-relay uninstall removes the service and its files from your Mac.
